Nice to meet you!

Tara Munro

I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) and Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) who works with children, youth, individuals and couples in the Sooke area who have a variety of life experiences including, but not limited to, trauma, loss, relationship and struggles, marginalization, substance use, anxiety, first responder trauma and other mental health concerns or injuries such as post traumatic stress injury.

Each individual coming to therapy is unique, attempts to do the best possible with the resources available, has wisdom, creativity and strength. Everyone has the right to self-determination.

I think that doing counselling means providing a safe place for you to tell your story, in whatever way that looks for you.I practice from a client-centered perspective using a combination of various forms of therapy: strength-based, motivational, response-based, solution-focused, narrative, eco-therapy, mindfulness, cognitive behavioral therapy, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), Gottman marriage counselling, post-traumatic stress injury (PTSI), psychoanalysis, systemic, trauma-informed and feminist... we will work together to find solutions and approaches that feel right for you.

I would love to offer a free 30 minute consultation to ensure a therapeutic fit.

My services are covered by many of the employment assistance packages.

I am also co-founder of the Sitka Wellness Centre Society, which is a small team of local practitioners, share the dream of making wellness services more attainable to the community. The Sitka Wellness Centre Society was born so that we're able to provide free or low-cost integrated health & wellness services and training opportunities to you. If everyone cared about young people even a fraction of how Tara does, this world would be a much better place. This lady has a huge heart, and an even greater talent.

Tara is a wonderful counsellor and guide for this exercise. She is patient and gentle while professional and insightful. When I try to explain EMDR to people, I find myself saying it is like moving big building blocks that have lodged themselves in my emotional memory. I have done different types of trauma work before and with the EMDR I could do big pieces quickly and effectively. The result was almost immediate. If you are even a bit curious, I recommend going to see for yourself!

Tara has quite simply changed my life! In just a few sessions of EMDR, my attitude to some of the traumatic events in my past has changed completely. Thoughts that would have crippled me with emotion and anxiety no longer do so. I’m amazed at the changes that this has brought into my life and grateful to Tara. She is professional, knowledgeable, gifted, compassionate and caring which is a beautiful balance and I highly recommend her.
